JEWS AND JEWISHNESS IN THE DANCE WORLD: A LASTING LEGACY?

Inaugural Conference: October 2018, Arizona State University

Access to information is critical to our understanding. In an effort to broaden and deepen the nearly nonexistent field of research surrounding contemporary Palestinian dance, this research will compile data on current Palestinian choreographers and their works. Through interviews with various Israeli and Palestinian choreographers and dance industry professionals, this new research seeks to build and backtrack on previous projects; instead of looking for choreographic similarities and differences, this project will focus on looking for the choreographers themselves, and the specific challenges they face.

This new research will focus on how the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict has affected the development of contemporary dance in Palestine, and how information about Palestinian choreographers can become more accessible.
